South Norfolk Village Clusters Housing Allocations Plan (Reg. 19 Pre-submission Draft)

16.9

Representation ID: 2293

Received: 06/02/2023

Respondent: Resident

Legally compliant? Yes

Sound? No

Duty to co-operate? Yes

Representation Summary:

Plan takes no account of further properties adding to heavier traffic congestion in The Street where the traffic is bottlenecked and virtually a one way street. There is no facility to widen road. Accidents have occurred here but non injury accidents are not recorded by the Police and go through insurance companies so it appears that there is no problem. Vehicles have to back up round the sharp blind bend into the path of other vehicles.

Change suggested by respondent:

Refuse planning permission or car park to be provided on land east of Daisy Way on the first bend in The Street coming from the Beccles direction for residents of The Street only so that parking outside of the houses is stopped and thus allowing full vehicle access in both directions, double yellow lines to be placed on both sides of The Street to enforce compliance.

Respondent: Resident

Legally compliant? Yes

Sound? No

Representation Summary:

The site does not provide any worthwhile facilities, a footpath to a service station and fast food outlets and a pub, hardly exciting services. All medical/dental services are in Beccles which has overstretched facilities already, Beccles has also a new large estate planned (450 homes) so this is placing extra problems on the medical services but is in Suffolk so doesn't feature in this Plan. All Gillingham residents have to go to Beccles Medical centre and have no choice.

Change suggested by respondent:

Gillingham development shouldn't go ahead. Beccles is only 3/4 mile away and the development there is huge placing strain on the local services which are under extreme pressure already. It's impossible to see a doctor. Surely the Beccles expansion programme should be taken into account and if so the Gillingham development wouldn't be required.

South Norfolk Village Clusters Housing Allocations Plan (Reg. 19 Pre-submission Draft)

Representation Summary:

It seems totally crazy that the previous Cluster plan approved in 2015 ( with 22 properties having been built and only just finished) hasn't been taken into account when allocating extra housing in Gillingham. does this now mean that in a few years time another Cluster pan will be put forward with more housing.
Surely a plan is exactly that, planning for the future and not in this case just a few years. The needs of the housing community hasn't changed that much in just 7 years.

Change suggested by respondent:

The plan does say what is required in the way of forward planning for housing in South Norfolk but it doesn't then say no more after that.
It needs to include a date at which further planning approval can be applied for in the future so at least residents know where they stand.
Forward planning doesn't mean short term planning which in this case it is short term, it upsets everyone.
The residents of Daisy Way Gillingham were informed when they purchased their home that there would be NO more properties built on their small estate, now there will be 35 more and years of disruption, the houses in Daisy Way being built on the 2015 approval the next 35 on this application, just a few years later. I'm sure they might not have purchased (some at £600.00) had they known.
