Based on the past history of flooding by Raw Sewage in New Road due to ANGLIAN WATER’s intransigence in not upgrading the Sewage piping, storage and pumping despite requests and promises to do this any further development in New Road will only make a difficult and unpleasant situation much worse. The sewage system at that end of the village together with the main sewer in Ashwellthorpe running along the Street down to the treatment farm needs a secondary sewer to be laid to cope with the increased demand due to an additional 50 houses built in the last 12 years.
The Village needs a cast iron commitment by ANGLIAN WATER to do the above. Heavy rain and Flooding of several properties with raw sewage has been a problem for over ten years in New Road. At present all the sewage from the 80 properties on The Street West of Greenwood Close, on Wood Farm and New Road go into part of the sewerage system which flows TOWARDS the pumping station on New Road. This is a 70% increase in the last four years and any more building will make it worse. The storage at the Pump station is inadequate, and the pumps are quickly overwhelmed because the pipe taking the sewage back to the main sewer is too small and is pushing against the sewage and surface water leakage already in the main sewer starting a long journey down to the treatment works. A secondary main sewer adjacent to the already overworked current sewer is the only long-term solution.
