Village Clusters Housing Allocations Plan - Alternative Sites & Focused Changes (Reg. 18)

Representation ID: 3525

Received: 01/02/2024

Respondent: Mr Martyn Cook

Representation Summary:

Significant consideration is needed for flooding risks in and around the proposed development area, as covering absorbent land with non-porous materials like tarmac could exacerbate these issues. The development's impact on community cohesion is also crucial, as the space is vital to the Barford and Wramplingham communities. With VCBAR1 already designated for development, additional housing in Barford could be excessive, disproportionately increasing the village's housing percentage. This expansion risks overwhelming local services, such as healthcare and utilities, in an area already facing challenges.

Significant attention to be paid to Flooding and flood risk, not just for this area the surrounding areas as a consequence of covering land that currently absorbs surface water, in non-porous tarmac.

The impact on the community cohesion should also be seriously considered - this space is integral to the communities of Barford and Wramplingham and used daily by the villagers.

With VCBAR1 already ear-marked for development, additional dwellings anywhere in Barford would be excessive and significantly increase the percentage of houses in the village - and further overwhelm the local services (ie. Doctors), utilities (power/sewage) - all in an area that doesn’t even have a shop.
